How to get rid of a trojan

Question

A scan indicated that Trojan.Fakegina is on my machine.  I followed instructions to remove it from the Windows registry, but when I got to the registry the indicated value "GinaDLL"="fakegina.dll" wasn't there.  Where can I find out more about removing this trojan, or find out for sure if my machine is infected?

Hi,

I'm sorry I didn't get back to you sooner.  I wasn't sure how to check to see if there was an answer to my question.  This is new to me.

I'm running XP on a Toshiba laptop.

Since I last wrote, I've

1. Gone into Task Manager and checked the Processes.  There was no evidence of the Fakegina or Ginastub being active.

2. Worked through a potential solution that took me into Registry Editor and I deleted a Gina.dll and a Fakegina.dll.

When I ran the Norton 360 Quick Scan, it did not show the Fakegina trojan.

Then I ran a Norton 360 Comprehensive Scan, and it did show the Fakegina trojan.

Any help you can give me will be appreciated.  I'll check this site for your response.  Thanks
